INTRODUCTION

Our Guide Is Designed for YOU

“How to Represent Yourself” covers in detail the steps and procedures for filing a lawsuit, otherwise known as “The Complaint” or “The Pleadings.” We understand that the legal process can be overwhelming when you don't have a legal background. We also know first-hand the hurdles and difficulties that Illegally Targeted People face. We therefore are trying to make your experience in the legal system as easy as possible.

The author of the legal section is not a lawyer but he earned a 4.0 GPA Master of Science degree in Legal Studies at Kaplan University (now Purdue University Online) and completed two years of law school at Concord Law School. In addition, he has filed one federal lawsuit and eleven state lawsuits (most targeting related), two of which were in small claim’s court. He is incorporating lessons from both his wins and losses in these writings to put you in the best position to succeed.

Preliminary Considerations

There are several general areas to review before we get into the details of filing a complaint and writing what is known as "the cause of action". Topics of immediate consideration include:

  • Should you sue?
  • Statute of limitations
  • Pre-litigation discovery
  • Government immunity or lack of
  • Suing government required first step – File a “Claim”
  • What to expect and when
  • Forms and requirements with deadlines
  • e-Filing (easier than you think!)
